7 Quick Takes (vol. 22)

--- 1 ---
Ready, set, random! (And late, but oh well.)

Yesterday morning Michael cheerfully greeted me from his crib wearing nothing but his diaper (and thank goodness he still had that on).  This was rather surprising, as he had been put to bed wearing fleecy footie polar bear pajamas.  I asked him why he had taken off his pajamas, and he wrinkled his nose in disdain and told me "a-wet."  Sure enough, his diaper was soaked past capacity (not an unusual morning state for my very well-hydrated toddler).  I guess I don't blame him... I wouldn't want to sit around in damp pajamas either...

--- 2 ---
We had a crazy busy (but good) day yesterday.  We spent the morning with Liam's godmother, and all three of us enjoyed our visit thoroughly (all four of us, assuming Nicole enjoyed it too...).  We stopped off at the grocery store on our way home for a few last minute items for dinner, and I had three separate people comment on how angry my baby was (angry that he was hungry, of course).  Yes, thank you, I noticed that he was yelling his head off.

Back home we had a quick lunch and I put M down for his nap waaaay too late.  The (now sated) infant slept for two hours straight, but the toddler sang and played in his crib for two hours.  Oh well, he was contained and (relatively) entertained, and I had the time I needed (more or less) to get the bread made and set to rise and the soup on the stove.  Soup and bread wouldn't have been nearly as complicated a dinner to fix if we hadn't schedule three houses to see right in the middle of prep time, but somehow it all came together.

A little over ambitious for one day?  Probably.  Don't worry, I didn't even make the bed yesterday, and I saved laundry for today.

--- 3 ---
I tried out two new soups from my new favorite cookbook this week: a French lentil soup on Wednesday and a cream of leek soup last night.  I feel like I need some sort of extra penance on Fridays--I don't miss meat the least little bit when I get to make soup and homemade bread for dinner.  Last night I paired my mom's potato bread with the cream of leek soup, and they went together quite nicely (if I do say so myself... but it's okay, because Alex said so too).  I'm looking forward to experimenting with more soups and pairing them with new breads from my birthday bread book.

It's a good thing the bread and soup still turned out despite the mid-prep hiatus, because all three houses were a bust.  The first one was nice but too small.  The second one was interesting (in a pea-soup-green-exterior and lots-of-orange-tile-interior kind of way) and also too small.  The third one was... well, let's just say that if HGTV wanted us to be on Property Brothers or something like that and buy and completely renovate the house for us, we might consider it.  It had potential (in a once-you-fix-the-sagging-ceiling-put-in-flooring-and-replace-the-40-year-old-appliances kind of way).

--- 5 ---
On a completely unrelated note, Michael has started calling me "Ashy-Mama" off and on.  I suppose I shouldn't be surprised--he hears everyone else call me Ashley and he is quite the little mimic.  But he knows he's not supposed to call me by my first name--he gets a very cute look of pure mischief whenever he does it.  I have a very hard time not laughing.

--- 6 ---
More random... I can't find my favorite pre-pregnancy jeans.  They probably wouldn't fit quite yet, but I'm optimistic that I'm getting close.  However I've searched through boxes and drawers and found all sorts of other pre-pregnancy gems--but no jeans.  It is quite vexing.

--- 7 ---
As is the fact that after tomorrow (well, I'll watch it Monday) I won't have any more episodes of Downton Abbey to look forward to.  What am I to do?!

Go see Jen for more quick takes!  Happy Friday Saturday :)
